BER Ratings (Domestic)

A Building Energy Rating or BER is similar to the energy label on your fridge with a scale of A-G. A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and G the least efficient.

From 1st January 2009, a BER certificate became compulsory for all homes being sold or offered for rent. If you are buying or about to rent a house or apartment now, you are entitled to a BER – so ask the seller/landlord or their agent.

Display Energy Certificate (DEC) Assessor

From 1 January 2009, all public buildings with a gross internal floor area greater than 1000m2 are required to display a Display Energy Certificate in a prominent place clearly visible to the public. This requirement is a consequence of the transposition into Irish legislation of Article 7(3) of the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive.

Mackey Energy & Planning Services are fully qualified and SEI Registered to prepare Display Energy Certificates for large public Buildings.

Air Tightness Testing

Air Tightness Testing identifies areas of the building that are experiencing heat loss through gaps and cracks in the envelope of the building fabric. From the 1st of July 2008 dwellings that apply for planning permission will require an Air Pressure Test

The aim of air tightness testing is to measure the flow of air within a building and identify areas that are experiencing heat loss. Improving the air tightness of a building is one of the most cost effective ways of improving energy efficiency.

Mackey Energy & Planning Services provides a comprehensive Air Pressure Testing Service for domestic and non-domestic buildings in line with current building regulations.

Thermal Imaging

By providing a Thermal Imaging service Mackey Energy & Planning Services will be able to offer a comprehensive energy assessment service. Thermal Imaging identifies heat loss through a building fabric and helps evaluate the correct improvements to make the house energy efficient and save money as well as improving comfort levels for occupants.

MEPS is Registered as a Level 1 Thermographer with the internationally recognised Infrared Training Centre (ITC).
